One of several views of this area in Stuart's catalogue, this is a very early view, probably one of Stuart's first and certainly pre-1913 as evidenced by the lack of the Mayflower Memorial. The trees lining the road were planted around the turn of the century and have not grown indicating a date of around 1900. The dress of the girls in the foreground bears this out. The building at the extreme left is the clubhouse of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club.
