Western Esplanade, Southampton

Looking along Western Esplanade towards the Town Quay. The Stella Memorial in the foreground and the lack of Mayflower Memorial shows that this image was taken between 1900 and 1913, the convenient postmark shows it must have been prior to 1906! The view would be similar today but the unsightly Red Funnel ferry terminal obscures the waterfront and the Harbour Board offices that would be in the background have yet to be built.
